Hillsborough gets a refurb!

A refurb of fitness facilities gets underway this week at Hillsborough Leisure Centre as we invest £150k to create a new of state-of-the-art dedicated fitness space and upgrade to the existing group cycling and dance studios.

Work at the leisure centre off Penistone Road will see a new fitness studio created, giving the gym three dedicated fitness spaces for classes with the new studio being the largest, accommodating over 50 people for a fitness class session.

Steve Culf, General Manager at Hillsborough Leisure Centre said: “We are thrilled to get this refurb underway and create a new extra-large fitness studio which can also be converted into two smaller studios.

“We have a huge demand for fitness classes here at Hillsborough with over 5,000 attendances every month. This extra capacity will enable us to offer even more classes and add extra disciplines too.”

The new flexible studio will feature a fresh new look with a sprung floor and sound system to create an energetic, dynamic atmosphere, a new integrated lighting system is also being added to the group cycling studio.

Andrew Snelling, our Chief Executive said: “As the health and wellbeing charity we are always striving to invest in our facilities. The new studio space and refurbished group cycling studio will complement the wide range of latest equipment at Hillsborough such as Wattbikes and the Queenax functional training zone to meet the demands of our growing membership.

“This refurb will allow us to expand our fitness class timetable and it will also free up space in our sports hall for increased community use.”

Work will begin in August with a new timetable for all three areas being launched mid-September to make full use of the new space.
