Is your child over 8 years old and like athletics? Sheffield Lightning Athletics Club is based at EIS Sheffield and offeres the opportunity to train in a world class venue, learn athletics disciplines such as jumping, running, throwing, keep fit, make new friends and have fun!

Melissa Walker

How long have you been a member? About 4 years
What do you enjoy about coming to the athletics sessions at EISS? I like jumping and improving my skills as well as seeing my friends.
How does it make you feel? Happy and accomplished.
Parent Question - What benefits does your child get from attending the athletics sessions at EISS? When Melissa started she wouldn't join in with any of the competitive activities as she got too stressed. Now, she is able to do most of the races and copes with both losing and winning. She has improved her athletics skills and confidence. She rarely talked at first, but not she chats happily to her friends as she participates.

How long have you been a member? 4 years
What do you enjoy about coming to the athletics sessions at EISS? Running and high jump.
How does it make you feel? Accomplished.
Parent Question - What benefits does your child get from attending the athletics sessions at EISS? Alex is dyspraxic and autistic. He struggled to find any clubs to suit him but athletics just worked so well. It's great for his motor coordination, and competing with other disabled young people is so good for him.

What do you enjoy about coming to the athletics sessions at EISS? It allows me to be with others and exercise in a fun way.
How does it make you feel? Happy.
Parent Question - What benefits does your child get from attending the athletics sessions at EISS? She has great fun with her friends and I'm happy because I know she is being healthy whilst having a great time.

How long have you been a member? 3-4 years
What do you enjoy about coming to the athletics sessions at EISS? I enjoy running around letting loose and seeing my friends.
How does it make you feel? it makes me feel good.
Parent Question - What benefits does your child get from attending the athletics sessions at EISS? Exercise and socialising with other children. Gets him out of the house and away from the electronic gadgets! It teaches him about team working, turn taking and winning and loosing which is very problematic for Joshua.

How long have you been a member? Nearly 12 years
What do you enjoy about coming to the athletics sessions at EISS? Talking to friends, running and playing games. The Leaders are nice and understanding too. I enjoy doing all the sports.
How does it make you feel? Happy.
Parent Question - What benefits does your child get from attending the athletics sessions at EISS? Friendship, social interactions, physical exercises/challenges, trying new activities, helping leaders, celebrating others' achievements, provides a safe inclusive environment to perform at your own capability level without fear of ridicule.

What do you enjoy about coming to the athletics sessions at EISS? Running and meeting people.
How does it make you feel? Tired!
Parent Question - What benefits does your child get from attending the athletics sessions at EISS? Gets to talk to people he likes and burns off all his extra energy! He feels proud that he can run fast and be good at something.
