iceSheffield coach hosts Ultimate Showgirl ice camp!

We heard a rumour there was an exciting event at iceSheffield this week so went to see what was happening and we were thrilled to walk into an abundance of sparkle, feathers, glamour and all-round fabulousness!

The Ultimate Showgirl Ice Camp (USC) headed up by iceSheffield’s resident off ice coach Kelly Buddery and International Choreographer and Artistic Director Nicky Scott, is an intensive workshop covering vital aspects of professional ice skating, ideal for skaters considering a career in ice shows or just for those that want to have some fun!

Running for the 8th year at iceSheffield, USIC is the only camp of its kind anywhere in the world for ice skaters! Since it began USIC has seen over 50 of their participants join the biggest ice shows around such as Hot Ice, Disney on Ice, Holiday on Ice and Royal Caribbean International.

The camp is very inclusive, and everyone is welcome regardless of whether you want to pursue a professional career or not. Members of the Inclusive skating community have attended the camp and last year the oldest “showgirl” was 62.

Kelly, who is from Sheffield was this year recognised by the Queen in her annual birthday honours for her services to ice skating said: “The camp consists of on and off ice training, make up tutorials, choreography classes, skating in feather harnesses and a professional photoshoot.

“It’s a busy few days for the 30 showgirl skaters who come from all over the UK to take part and the week is rounded off with a stunning performance with all out glamour on the Friday afternoon to finish off the week.”

Shaun Lough, General Manager at iceSheffield said: “The showgirl camp is hugely popular and a great way to support the skaters in creating opportunities to forge a career in the sport they have trained to achieve.

“Skaters come from up and down the country and in the past overseas too and it’s a fantastic addition to our varied programme of events here at iceSheffield.”
