7 Ways To Make Fitness Fun

If you’ve fallen out of love with your exercise routine or you just want to try something new, read our 7 tips for making fitness fun!

1. Go with a friend

Working out with a friend is always more fun, you can spur each other on, suggest new exercises to try and have a laugh along the way. Having a friend by your side can not only motivate you but make exercising feel like a social occasion rather than a chore.

2. Randomise your workouts

Write down your favourite exercises on small pieces of paper, put them in a jar or bag and draw out 4 or 5 to create a random workout for you to try in the gym. This will come in handy when you don’t have the headspace to think of what to do when you get to the gym too. Another thing to mix it up is to try a different exercise class each week until you have tried everything your venue has to offer. This will not only keep your muscles on their toes but you might find a class you absolutely love in the process!

3. Challenge yourself

Create fun challenges to complete in your next workout either alone or with a friend so you can add in a bit of light hearted competition. For example, try to row 500m in the quickest time possible, hold a plank for as long as you can (this is a great one to try with a friend) or see how quickly you can swim a length in the pool.

4. Make a playlist

Music is a huge motivator for many, so having a good playlist to listen to is sure to give you an extra boost of energy. Try and create a few different ones to choose from or, if you have a music subscription of some sort, there’s plenty of ready-made playlists of all different genres to discover.

5. New outfit

Having some new workout gear can really put a spring in your step and while it’s not technically ‘fun’ it will certainly lift your mood when you put on a new pair of trainers or outfit. Especially if you’re working out a lot, investing in a selection of great exercise clothes will make you look and feel great.

6. Play a game

Staying fit is not just about slogging it in the gym or attending a fitness class, anything where you are physically active in some capacity will help you stay fit and healthy. Leisure activities are a great way to add some fun into your routine and unleash your competitive side plus, you won’t even realise you’re exercising. Why not have a game of badminton, squash or shoot some hoops with a game of basketball?

7. Change of scenery

Sometimes a change of scenery is great for a fresh perspective. You can discover a new space, try out new equipment and see some new faces. If you have an Access All Areas membership you can do just that, so when you feel like you need a new environment, try one of our 7 venues across Sheffield!
