Altitude Course Guidelines And Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to book?

Customers are advised to book in advance to secure their place on the course. Bookings can be made over the phone or in person at iceSheffield reception.

Customers who walk up on the day will have to wait until a time slot is available.

Arriving on time

Make your way to Altitude and be ready to start your rope adventure just before your booked time. Please don’t be late!  It is vital you get here on time for the start of your session as the essential safety briefing will take place.  If you arrive late and miss your session, or cancel on the day, we’ll still charge you full price. Arriving on time means no one gets stressed or disappointed.  Factor in extra time for your travel, especially during busier weekend periods.

What do I wear?

No heels, open toed shoes, flip flops or sandals are allowed on the course; trainers or ankle-supporting boots are perfect and will help with your footing on the course. For your enjoyment and safety, we recommend comfortable clothing but skirts and scarfs are a definite no no; you're going to be high in the air after all! Long hair must be tied back at all times and all jewellery should be removed, particularly rings.

Check out the weather forecast for the day and dress accordingly. Whilst gloves aren't a requirement, we would recommend them for a more comfortable experience! Be sure that any gloves you bring are 'gripper' gloves, so you will be able to grip the rope as you go round the course (don't worry if you don't have any gloves, as we do sell them on the course).

Are their any height or weight restrictions?

You must be a minimum of 1.1m in height and a maximum weight of 19 stone to go on the course.

Can children go on the course and do they need to be supervised?

Children 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult in the following way:

  • Children 1.1 - 1.4 metres must be supervised by an adult (over 18 years) on the course with a ration of 1 adult to 2 children
  • Children over 1.4 metres and under 11 years old must be supervised by and adult (over 18 years) this can be from the ground as a spectator

Children aged between 12 and over do not have to be accompanied by an adult but will need the disclaimer to be signed by an adult (over 18 years). This can be obtained upon request via email or in person from iceSheffield.

Is the course suitable for everyone?

You do need a degree of physical fitness but it's probably easier than you might think. It might reassure you to know that it is very rare for a person to stop because they weren't fit enough. Unfortunately, pregnant women are not able to take part due to the position of the harness and the impact this may have on the unborn child.

If you have a health condition then this should be self assessed in advance – customers need to make the decision about whether they are able to take part.

Is it safe?

YES! All you need to do is follow our simple training instructions and you'll have a safe and fun time. Before we set you off, you'll receive a full safety brief and then you’re off! The course does however, consist of fun but challenging obstacles so there is a risk of minor injury (e.g. bruises and scrapes).

What happens if I fall?

No need to panic if you fall off – your harness will catch you and you can continue on the course.

What happens in bad weather?

Luckily Altitude is an all weather course and you can have just as much fun in the rain as you can in the sun. However, on very rare occasions we may need to close the course at short notice due to lightning or extremely high winds! Should this happen, we will contact you as soon as possible.

Can I get off if I do not like it?

Instructors will always be on hand to help you if you have difficulty on any part of the course. Unfortunately no refunds are given if you fail to complete the course.

Is there a time limit to complete the course?

Within reason – No!
